Launching Apple Music's 2017 identity redesign, the Anthem campaign spot underscored that your favorite artists are already on Apple Music. By translating the music note app icon into the rich visual language of music videos and album artwork, Anthem delivered a visually striking cultural splash.

The follow-on Music Notes artist series continued the momentum—creating 3 years of music artist-inspired fresh new notes that dropped ahead of major releases and tours.

Our Brief:
Create a visually cohesive Apple Music Note inspired by an artist's album artwork, music video aesthetic, or other provided artwork source. Make it look cool as hell.
Challenge: accepted.

The resulting Music Notes artwork was deployed via general awareness campaign directly on the Apple Music platform, and in placements across social media, DOOH, and OOH.

The Up Next Note
Up Next highlighted emerging artists on the Apple Music platform. Artwork for Up Next artists placed their image into a highly stylized templated chrome note with an identifying color palette. Up Next campaigns ran across digital and social media placements and in two prominent OOH placements: the Meatpacking District in NYC, and along the Sunset Strip in LA.

Impact

From Meek Mill and AR Rahman to BTS, Disney Hits, and The Country Music Awards—the iconic note transformed the visibility of Apple Music as a major streamer. In 2018, Apple Music added the second highest number of subscribers—9.2 million, with the US being the key growth market.
